We have a beautiful music ministry here are St Mary's. If you enjoy singing please join our choir. You do not need to have a “trained’ voice. All are welcome.
Rehearsals are held every Thursday beginning at 6:30 PM in the balcony (choir loft) of the church. The same music is sung at our 5pm Vigil Mass and our 9am Sunday Mass. You may choose to sing at either or both liturgies.
If you would like to be added to the email list to receive music each week and be notified of special liturgies please email our music director Luciano.
Thank you for sharing your gifts with our parish!
We are thrilled to introduce our new music director Luciano Laurentiu!
Born in Timisoara, Romania, Luciano is a classically trained musician who has performed and directed music all over the world.
Upon receiving the position of Principal Organist at St. Louis King of France Catholic Church in July 2019, Luciano Laurentiu relocated to Austin TX where he served as organist, pianist and choral singer at the parish. More recently he has served as principal organist for the Diocese of Austin, organist at the University Catholic Center on the UT Campus and regular substitute throughout the Diocese.
We are so blessed and excited to welcome him to St Mary’s!
St. Mary Parish in Taylor, Texas founded in 1886, has a rare one of only two-of-its-kind A. B. Felgemaker Organs in the state of Texas. In 1902, William Kielihar donated an A. B. Felgemaker Pipe Organ Opus 770 to St. Mary; its value then was $3,600. It's ivory keys, pulls, and stops played full melodic sounds every Sunday, wedding, and funeral until the church was torn down in November 1954. Otto Hoffman, an organ builder from Austin, Texas, disassembled the organ for storage until the new church was built. When the new St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic church was completed in 1955, Hoffman cleaned and re-built the organ in the present church, where it is still used today. When the organ was reassembled in the present church, it was placed in a room to the right of the altar instead of upstairs in the balcony.* In 2021, the church’s 100-year-old organ was disassembled, moved from its first-floor chamber and relocated to the choir loft balcony to fully enhance the acoustics . We are so blessed to have such a beautiful piece of history.
