IV World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.

Last month the Holy Father announced the IV World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly. While Pope Francis has called for this special celebration to be on September 28th, due to the National Celebration of Grandparents here in the U.S. on September 8, the USCCB has transferred Pope Francis’ initiative to Sunday the 8th of September. This year’s theme, “Do not cast me off in my old age,” (cf. Psalm 71:9) seeks to draw attention to the lived situations in which many of our elderly find themselves - that of sadness and loneliness. This day is intended to renew our love and concern for those in our families and communities that are advanced in age and wisdom.
